Plastic everywhere

Germany is a major producer of plastic waste. According to Greenpeace, Germany produces 20 million tonnes pf plastic per year. Plastic is everywhere and is hard to avoid. Even though 70% of Germans say they are careful about plastic when buying products, even stores who claim some degree of ecological awareness still wrap purchases in plastic.

My local market ironically puts bio products in plastic, with the doubtful explanation that it protects them from contamination by non-bio products.  This kind of wrapping adds up nationally to something like 40 Kg per person per year.

As individuals we can do only so much, but collectively we can encourage stores to use less plastic. It is a small step, but we need to take small steps to protect God's creation.
